ROUTE DESCRIPTION:
We start at the Welschnofen/Nova Levante village square and slowly climb up to the Nigerjochstrasse on lonely forest roads.
Once you have managed part of this climb, with a 500 m cumulative elevation gain, at a stretch (you could of course take the gondola lift to get up there), you already have the most strenuous part of the day behind you.
Now the ride is more or less fl at parallel to the Jochstrasse, past the Nigerpass/Passo Nigra and Schillerhof up to Wolfsgrube. After a short inspection, we roll on to Gummer, where the route on the Planetenweg fl owingly continues up to the observatory. Here, we recommend a brief lunch break over a delicious Knödel (dumpling) and homemade bread. We appraise the only observatory in South Tyrol and then ride on to the Taufenweg via Obergummer. After a short foot march, this hiking path turns out to be a relaxed trail home. However, as we would really like things to go with a proper bang again right at the end, we take a technically demanding trail including brook crossing, which then ends in the middle of Welschnofen/Nova Levante.
